W.A. "Billy" Davis

New Church, VA-Mr. W.A. "Billy" Davis, Jr., 81, husband of Audrey Miller Davis, of New Church, VA, passed away on September 29, 2013, at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 25, 1932, in New Church, VA, Billy was the son of the late Evelyn Bailey Davis and W.A. Davis, Sr. Billy was a farmer most of his life, who had a passion in his later years for growing prized roses. He and Audrey, his sweetheart since 7th grade and wife of over 62 years, were proud and dedicated parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents who could always be found on the sidelines of every sporting event in which a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild was participating. Billy was also a member of the Old School Baptist Church in Snow Hill, MD, a member of the board of directors of Broadwater Academy from 1967-1983, a former director of the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation, and a former president of the Bay Country Rose Society.

In addition to his wife, Billy is a survived by four children, Patricia Davis, Bill Davis and wife Connie, Tom Davis and wife Cherron, and Beth Sharpley and husband John, all of New Church, VA; nine grandchildren, Elaine McNure and husband Moe, Elizabeth Powell and husband Ryan, Tommy Davis and wife Meredith, all of New Church, VA, Ashley Davis of Snow Hill, MD, Benjamin Davis and wife Valyn of Withams, VA, Cordie Lee Davis of Yorktown, VA, Katie Moreland and Kevin of Pocomoke, MD, Jonathan Sharpley of Harrisonburg, VA, and Sarah Sharpley of Salisbury, MD; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Payton, and Harley McNure, Abigail Taylor, Madison and Ella Powell, Ava Davis, and Audrey and Ty Davis; one sister, Linda Adkins of Salisbury, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Davis in 1996.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at Nelson Cemetery in New Church, VA on Thursday, October 3rd, 2013, at 11:00am, with Elder James Poole officiating. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at the family farm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Shore Madrigal Singers, c/o Sherry Kleckner, 7455 Justice Farm Lane, Wallops Island, VA 23337, or the Children Hospital of the King's Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.

All arrangements are being handled by Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA.
