Harold Lindenhofen Obituary

Harold "Harry" Edward Lindenhofen

Ocean Pines - age 78, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at his home. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Harold Lindenhofen and Teresa Keating. He is survived by his wife, Joan M. Lindenhofen, daughters; Susan Lindenhofen, Teresa McGrath (Paul), Karen Manoski (Michael), Beth Young (Robert), and grandchildren; Madeline, Jack, Andrew, Cayla, Jenna, and Savannah.

Harold was a program analyst for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. He retired in Ocean Pines in 1997 and became part of the community he loved. He was a staff member of the new Ocean Pines Library, taught Chemistry and Math classes at Wor-Wic Community College, played golf, was a member of St John Neumann Church and AOH organization. Later on Harry became interested in Astronomy, attended adult education classes on the subject and became a "star gazer". The thing he really loved most was "beaching it" with his family.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his memory to Coastal Hospice at PO Box 1733 Salisbury, MD 21801 or St. John Neumann at 11211 Beauchamp Road Berlin, MD 21811. Joan, so sorry to hear of Harry's passing. We enjoyed meeting Harry at the annual Super Bowl parties and I know that Craig and he had some very interesting military stories to share, albeit Air Force vs Army. Hugs and Prayers to you and the family at this time.

Harry was a mentor for me when I was just getting started in the Air Force. He was very professional and a great environmental manager at HQ AF at the time but an even better man who was just good to be around. He lived the Air Force core values of integrity, service and excellence and made those around him better for just knowing him. While no words I can write here can hope to assuage the anguish that must be theirs for a loss so great, my deepest sympathies go to the family who I pray will be left with only the cherished memories of and the solemn pride for Harry and his life so well lived.

Fond memories of the Superbowl game at your home, get togethers and dinners shared. We pray that the love of Christ Jesus, our Lord, will keep your hearts and minds in peace. Especially know that at this past Christmas Eve that "God so loved the world (Harry) that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

I first met Harry in late 1984--we both worked on environmental programs for Headquarters Air Force. He was a superb and smart guy. I so enjoyed working and being with Harry. We used to carpool together and it wasn't long until my wife and I were going out to dinner with Harry and Joan. They were delightful. After our careers took us to different places, I kept in touch with Harry the years but not as much as I should have. He had a great sense of humor and could always be counted on to turn a bad day or a bad situation into a good one. I will always treasure the good times we had. Joan, Judy and I love you and send our heartfelt sympathy to you and we send our very best wishes to you and your wonderful family.

So very sad to learn of Harry's death. Such a genuinely nice man; I always enjoyed talking with him at the library, hearing his interesting stories and his dry sense of humor. My daughter, who is now 20, often came with me to the library when she was little and got used to seeing Harry at his post at the front desk. One day , I told her the library was closed because a pipe broke and the library was flooded. She looked at me with wide eyes and concern and said, "Is Harry okay?"
Godspeed Harry -- I know you're okay.
