LANG, Johann Hans January 18, 1928 – May 31, 2014 Johann "Hans" Lang passed away at home, peacefully and unexpectedly, on the evening of Saturday May 31, 2014, as a result of long term medical conditions. He was 86 years old. Despite declining health, Hans continued to give and take joy through the pleasures most precious to him. These were the love and companionship of his family and good friends, the satisfaction of a challenging bridge game, tasty pairings of food and fine single malt scotch, and anything and everything concerning his grandchildren. Hans Lang was predeceased by his beloved wife Wilma Jean Forbes, and is survived by his children Steven (Helena nee Bardos) and Susanne (Mark Bacon). He was the incurably proud "Opa" to Etienne, Jacqueline, Liam, and Sean, brother to Maria and Walter of Vienna, Austria, brother in-law to Wilma's sister Marilyn (Stuart Lyon), best friend to Neil (deceased) and Jackie McGregor of Montreal, uncle to Crista Lehner, Brigitta Lebinger, Craig, Cheryl and Gary Lyon, and Andrew and Holly McGregor. He will be missed by all. Hans received his degree in Mechanical Engineering in Vienna, Austria in 1947, before immigrating to Canada in 1952. He completed his Master's degree at Sir George Williams University in Montreal in 1972. Hans' expertise in turbine design helped make abundant and affordable hydroelectric power possible in the country that adopted him. After his retirement, Hans started his own consulting firm, and continued to share his knowledge and expertise on Canadian hydroelectric developments, as well as sharing his leadership and knowledge on projects in China and India. Han's passion for Engineering was a true calling, and his work brought the comforts and conveniences of electricity to people living in some of the poorest and most remote regions of these developing nations. Hans finally retired at age 82, after a long and rewarding career. His smile touched the lives of those who knew him. His stories, his love of friends and family, his simplicity and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
