Irene Joy O'Neil (nee Krotez) February 20, 1970 - August 20, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce that Irene "Reenie" passed away peacefully in her home in Tsawwassen. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May of 2013, Irene battled this cancer with strength, grace and courage that was inspirational to everyone. During this time, Irene found spiritual peace and guidance through Pastor Daniel Stebeck and the congregation at the Ladner Christian Fellowship. Born at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver to Maria and Joseph Krotez, Irene lived in Vancouver and Richmond before settling in Tsawwassen. She graduated from UBC as a Chartered General Accountant and shortly thereafter began a very successful career working at Deloitte and Touche. While enjoying her favourite pastime, playing slopitch with the Buffalos, Flamingos and the Neon Warriors, Irene found love and happiness in RJ O'Neil and they married in 2004. Within 2 short years, Tysen was born and 3 years later their daughter Tessa was born. Wanting to spend more time with her family, Irene found work within her own community at The Vermeulen Group in Tsawwassen. Irene's interest in sports was pursued with passion. She was an integral member of the Tribe slopitch club, who quickly became her extended family. Irene (#14) also enjoyed playing ice hockey and was an avid winger on the Smooth Grooves hockey team where she fostered many wonderful relationships. Irene touched the hearts of all who knew her, and will be deeply missed. Her beautiful smile and outgoing personality will remain in our hearts forever. Irene is survived by her caring husband, RJ, her dynamic son Tysen, her charismatic daughter Tessa and a large extended family. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the overwhelming support they received from the community over the past year. A private memorial service for family and close friends was held on Tuesday, August 26 at the Delta Funeral Home. A Celebration of Irene's life will be arranged in the coming weeks for those wishing to attend. In lieu of flowers, Irene made a specific request for people to donate much needed blood to the blood bank. Financial donations (In Memory Gift) can also be made online to Canadian Blood Services as a tribute to Irene O'Neil at fundraising.blood.ca.
