Aranda, Annie  
Annie Bailon Aranda, 86, former resident of Deming passed away Thursday May 19, 2016 at home in Tucson, Arizona. Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5 to 7 at Baca's Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 7 o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 10 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating. Concluding services interment to follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Annie was born July 14, 1929 in Belvedere, California to Ramon and Dolores (Chavez) Bailon. She has lived most all her life in Deming where she had been employed with the Deming Public Schools in the cafeteria. She had also worked at Mimbres Memorial Hospital and K Bobs Restaurant for some time. Annie was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church where she had always been very active and was a member of the Apostolado. She was also an avid gardener and supporter of her children's and grandchildren's athletic events. No matter the occasion, she always loved being with her family and grandchildren. Annie has been a resident of Tucson since 2011. She is survived by her husband, Miguel O. Aranda of Tucson; sons, Mike, Richard, David (Cindy Molina) who was also her caregiver, and Joseph (Jennie) Aranda all of Tucson, Julian Aranda of Phoenix, AZ; and daughters, Linda Jaime of Deming and Patsy Aranda (Jennifer Beebe) of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Annie was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Debra Salas on October 22, 2013. Pallbearers will be Joseph Aranda, David Aranda Jr., Daniel Aranda, Richard Aranda Jr., Tomas Rodriguez Jr., Austin Self, Shane Mora, and Trey Villanueva. Batts, Larry  
Larry Duane Batts, 66 of Hobbs, NM passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 12, 1949 in Deming, NM to the home of U.J. and Hazel (Hobbs) Batts. He attended and graduated from Deming high School. Larry married Joy Marlene Roberts on August 17, 1967 in Las Vegas, NM. They made their home in Hobbs in 1981 where Larry worked as a licensed electrician with Dixie Electric for 31 years. He retired in 2012. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. Larry is preceded in death by his parents. He will be missed by his family and friends, his wife of 48 years Joy Batts of Hobbs, son Allen Batts and wife Shelly of Deming, daughter Michelle Ray of Hobbs, grandchildren Kandace Gottlieb and husband Brandon of Denver, CO, Tobee Batts, Brice Ray, and Tayler Ray all of Hobbs and one great-grandchild Mackineze Gottlieb of Denver. Also surviving are two sisters Shirley Weatherford and husband Gene of McAlester, OK, and Carolyn Tue of Maricopa, AZ, several nieces and nephews along with a host of relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Larry Batts to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Graveside services were held at Monday, May 23, 2016 at Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Dominguez, Vivian  
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Vivian "The Colonel" P. Dominguez, age 76 of Las Cruces and formerly of Deming, on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born in Deming on July 6, 1939 to Vivian and Martina Perea Dominguez. After graduating from Deming High School he attended Eastern NM Junior College and Western NM University. He married Patricia Perrault and raised three children, Denise, Edward and Steven. After living in Farmington and Gallup, he made his home in Las Cruces for the past 49 years. After a successful career in the insurance industry, he entered into business for himself in the fast-food industry, opening a KFC franchise, starting in Gallup and then continuing in Las Cruces. Eventually, he built his business into a chain of twelve successful outlets in Texas and southern New Mexico. He also owned and operated a package liquor and lounge business in Deming. In total, he owned and managed these businesses for over 30 years. The Colonel, as he was fondly known to family and friends, was a very tough but caring and giving man. As he built his businesses he always tried to help others along the way. His sharp wit and sense of humor was known to all who knew him. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, and also engaged in drag racing for over twenty years with his lifelong friend, Ray Montoya. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Las Cruces Council #1226, and was a parishioner of both the Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary and Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish in Tortugas. Survivors include his loving family, Patricia Dominguez; his children, Edward Dominguez (Angela) all of Las Cruces, Steven Dominguez (Chona) of Chicago, IL and Denise Romero (Rick) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Celeste Romero, Richard Romero, Dominique Dominguez, Danielle Dominguez, Anisa Dominguez, Malenna Dominguez and Julian Dominguez; great-grandchildren, Jayden Romero Nafgar and Isaac Romero Nafgar, and one sister, Carmen Pedraza of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. A Prayer Vigil will begin at 11 AM Friday, May 27, 2016 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 400 S. Ruby Street in Deming, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately thereafter. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mountain View Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Edward and Steven Dominguez, Rick and Richard Romero, Ray Montoya and Larry Bernal. Honorary bearers will be Jayden and Isaac Romero Nafgar and Julian Dominguez. A loving father, Vivian tried to spend as much time as possible with all his children and grand and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his many dear friends. Katie Edding, 92, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Saturday, May 21, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Cleveland, OH to William Allen and Bessie Gray. Yvonne Arlene Hobuss, 84, Deming resident passed away Saturday May 21, 2016 at Center for Compassionate Care in El Paso, Texas. No local services will be held. Private services will be next to her husband Orville, in the Military Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Yvonne was born December 27, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Lucille MacGregor and John William Cullen. She had worked as a clerk in the banking business. She was a very independent lady until her passing. Survivors include her son, Michael Hobuss and his wife, Vicki of Wenatchee, Washington; daughter, Mari-Beth Geedey and her husband, Jim of Charlotte, North Carolina; 2 sisters, Joyce Bringle of Bradley, Illinois, Lucille LeGare of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; 2 nieces, Leslie Finley, Dana Schumacher both of Milwaukee; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Hodson, J. Thomas  
J. Thomas Hodson, 79, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 20th, his family at his bedside. Tom was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Marvel A. Bohner Hodson and Richard J. Hodson, and spent his early years in Huntington, IN. A Deming resident since 1947, Tom graduated from Deming High School in 1955. He attended N.M. Military Institute in Roswell, excelling in sports. His 9.5-second record in the 100-yard dash at NMMI still stands. Following his 1957 graduation from NMMI he was awarded a track scholarship to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. While there, he and his team won many national track events, as well as at the British Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He later transferred to NM Highlands University, graduating in 1960. He was a Captain in the United States Army, serving active duty at Ft. Eustis, Virginia during the Berlin Wall Crisis. Tom was involved in several businesses in Deming, Albuquerque, and El Paso. He served as Vice President and CEO of the Auburn Rubber Company in Deming for several years. While in El Paso, he created, built, and was the leading partner in Classic American Homes, El Paso's largest home builder. In 1994, he retired to Cape Coral, Florida, enjoying boating, beaches, and the many other outdoor activities available in southwest Florida. In 2008 he returned to live in El Paso to enjoy the company of family and friends. He is survived by wife, Diane; brother, John, of Cape Coral FL; 7 children: Merri Johnson and husband, Gregory, of Albuquerque; Richard of Rio Rancho; Kathryn of Deming; Derek of Raleigh NC; Jason and wife, Heather, of North Ft. Meyers, FL; Samira Franco and husband, Larry, of Houston, TX; and Erin of El Paso. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew of Florida. Tom's father preceded him in death in 1989, and his mother in 1999. The family will gather for a private graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming where Tom will be interred in the family plot next to his parents. Medina, Antonio  
Antonio M. Medina, 83 was born March 13, 1932; he then entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. In 1954, Antonio served in the Armed Forces for 3 yrs. After the Military he became a resident of Pinos Altos, NM. He then worked as a truck driver for 30 yrs for Alfred M. Lewis. Inc. and during those years he was a husband and father to two children, After retiring, Antonio continued to serve for another 20 yrs as a volunteer firefighter for the Pinos Altos Fire Dept. During his lifetime, he constantly gave himself up for others and took risks in order to make a difference in so many lives. He is greatly missed and his smile will never be forgotten. In memory of Antonio, his daughter Judith of New Jersey will be honoring her fathers' wishes- which were to be buried next to his wife Maria Medina at the Pinos Altos Cemetery on May 28, 2016 at 11 am. Afterwards, for those who'd like to join, friends and family are invited to attend a small gathering at the Pinos Altos Fire Dept. to mingle and enjoy coffee or refreshments, and to honor and remember the PA Smiley. Moore, Billy  
Billy Leroy Moore, 80, long time resident and business owner of Silver City, NM. passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016. Billy was born September 17, 1935 in Pampa, TX to William Dudley and Connie (Pendergraff) Moore. They moved to Hobbs, where Billy graduated from Hobbs High School in 1954, where he was an All-State Offensive Lineman. He graduated from New Mexico State University in 1961, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He lived in Dallas and worked at Sears for 10 years. Billy had 3 children, Dudley and Selena Moore from his first marriage to Helen Tate, and Wendy (Moore) Rivera with his wife of 46 years, Norma (Guillen) Moore. Billy and his wife Norma moved to Silver City in 1976, and took over the Sears Catalog Store for 16+ years. He also owned Daylight Donuts for over 13 years before retiring due to his health issues. While living in Silver City, he was a social butterfly that was active in the community, where he was President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Lions Club, active in both the Prospectors and the University Club. Billy was known for his gift of gab and storytelling and never met a stranger. He enjoyed memberships with the Elks and Moose Lodges. He loved fishing in Mexico with his vast amount of close friends. He also loved bowling, playing pool, and spending weekends with family skiing at Elephant Butte. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Norma Moore of Silver City, his son Dudley and wife Becky Moore, 3 granddaughters of Las Cruces, his daughter Wendy and husband Sebastian Rivera, one granddaughter and two grandsons of Austin, TX, and his sister Kay Atwood of Carlsbad, NM as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Connie, and 3 sisters; Jean, Ruth, and Connie; his daughter Selena and granddaughter Crystal. The Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 2pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor Floyd Robertson officiating. Rodriguez of the family home; her children, Corrina Maestas (Derek), Valerie Palomarez (Johnny), Christopher Allison, step children, Dion Rodriguez, Dee Ann Rodriguez, Benjie Rodriguez and Lynn Sanchez; twenty-two grandchildren, Jadyen, Candace and Alyshia Maestas, Johnny, Matthew, Justin, Gabriel and Zackary Palomarez, Brandy Rodriguez, Angela Trujillo, Zetha, Joseph and Nannett Rodriguez, Maricella Rodriguez, Christopher, Aaron, Zander, Rion, Gabriella, Ethan, Jubal and Jasmine; three great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Aydriana and Ava; brothers and sisters, Billy Ortega (Ester), Steve Ortega (Sylvia), Sista Clark (Richard) and Velma Apodaca (Mike). She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Espirion and Eduardo Ortega. William "Bill" Scott, 94, Deming resident passed away Monday May 9, 2016 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home. At his request no services will be held. Cremation will be by Baca's Mimbres Crematory. Bill was born November 1, 1921 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Force for four years. Bill was the manager for an auto dealership.
