The world became just a little bit darker on Sunday, September 16, 2012, when Fern Bennett passed away. She was a bright spot in the lives of everyone that knew her.
She was the original working mom, juggling a career at Mountain Bell, with the challenges of raising 3 children.
She was an amazing cook, creating years worth of incredible food with practice and skill, but rarely using a recipe. It is amazing that Leroy does not weigh 300 pounds.
She was an animated storyteller and always had a racy joke at the ready.
She was a devoted mother and matriarch, doting and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. No one left her house wanting for anything.
She will be sorely missed.
Fern was born on December 8, 1934 in Colorado. She met her husband in Lordsburg, New Mexico. They were married on March 1, 1953.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Bennett, daughters; Norene Hammond and Dena Davis, sisters; Lola Drake and Rita Bennett, brothers; Irvin Atwater, Dennis Atwater and Larry Atwater along with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son Royce Bennett, parents; Rosco and Nora Atwater, sisters; Faye Drinkard, Joyce Cummings and Ruby Erler, brothers; Lee, Dale and Lloyd Atwater.
There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 6595 Hermanas Road SW, Deming, NM.
