Ray Thompson Obituary
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ernie Vineyard officiating. Cremation has taken place at Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
Ray was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Silverton, Texas, to Cornelia Moore and Bill Thompson. He worked as a draftsman in commercial construction. Ray graduated from West Texas State University and was the former regional vice president of Texas Archaeological Society; he was also the director of state field activities for New Mexico Minute Men Project. He served his county honorably in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He married Margaret Taylor June 19, 1976, and moved to Deming 13 years ago, coming from Lake Roberts. Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church. His pastimes were golfing, fishing, hiking, looking for Indian signs and participating in archaeological digs in Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Margaret; stepson, Gregg Smith of Alhambra, California; daughter, Tammy Thompson of McKinney, Texas, and two grandchildren, Rance and Dillon Fiel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Cornelia Thompson; a son, Tony Thompson; and a brother, Roy Thompson.

Roy and Ray Thompson sat in front of me on the school bus five days a week dor a few yrs while we attended Claude Public Schools. Both of these guys were always perfect gentlemen all the time. They were smart and funny and well respected by everyone who knew both of them. They married sisters who also rode the same school bus. I am sad to know that this fine man I knew from our school years is no longer with is. Rest in Peace friend.
