John H. Montney, 85, departed this mortal world and was reunited with his wife of 56 years on 22 May 2013. His passing was quiet and peaceful, with Marylane his daughter and Paul a son by his side.
John and his twin sister Hazel were born in Hill Township located in Ogemaw County, Michigan on 6 January 1928 to Joseph A. and Cordilia Jane Odell Montney.
After returning from Korea, John met his bride to be Dorothea M. Fox during the Halloween party for the injured veterans at the VA hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. John and Dorothea 'Vicki' were married on 25 October, 1952.
Their union was blessed with three children, Marylane born 19 February 1954, John S. 28 January 1956 and Paul J. 11 October, 1959. There were later blessed with the three grandchildren; Mark, Rachel and Richard of Marylane and her late husband Ervin 'Butch' Cruce; the two grandchildren Sean and Brittany of John and his wife Debbie; and the three grandchildren Samantha, Tameron and Paula of Paul and his wife Karen. Along with several great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters.
John is survived by his sole remaining sibling Beulah 'Peggy' Barber of Hale, Michigan.
John enjoyed bowling and playing pool as well as the outdoors having installed in his sons and later his grandsons an appreciation for hunting and fishing. Which is now being handed down to his great-grandchildren.
Having been a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Davison, Michigan for many years John was active in several committees as well as caretaker for the five acres of lawn and always making sure the parking lot was cleared of snow when need be.
After retirement from General Motors, John and Vicki moved to Columbus and later Deming, New Mexico. During their years in Columbus, John was active in the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department, having reached the rank of Lieutenant before leaving the department.
