Longtime Deming resident Elvira Z. Walters passed away peacefully in California, surrounded by her daughters and family, on November 18th. She was 81.Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, November 24, 2013 from 3 to 6 at Baca's Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o'clock that evening led by Suzanne Lundy. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday morning at 10:30 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Machado officiating. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery. Following the committal service at the cemetery family and friends are invited to the Santa Clara Armory for fellowship. Born in 1932, Elvira graduated from Western New Mexico University, later returning to obtain a master's degree in economics. A dedicated and talented educator who touched many lives, Elvira was a second grade school teacher in the Deming School District for three decades. She is remembered fondly by her many students over the years. In her free time, she loved travel, visiting dozens of countries in three continents. But the place she visited most frequently was Southern California, where her two daughters and their families reside. Her strength and loving spirit, vibrant sense of humor and diverse intelligence will be dearly missed by her many friends and family. At the time of her passing, Elvira was surrounded by her daughters, Yolanda Ortega and Yvette Sifuentes, their husbands Bob and Randy, her four grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren. Prior to her death, she was blessed to have seen or spoken to all of her brothers and sisters, Helen Hernandez of Silver City, Gena Martinez of Silver City, Elifas Zamora of El Paso, Texas, Aurora Mendoza of Las Cruces , Tommy Zamora of Arenas Valley, Eloisa Maldonado of Phoenix, Arizona, Robert Zamora of Santa Clara and Rosemary Arellano of Silver City. She is preceded in death by her elder brother, Jesus "Chuy" Zamora, and her parents, Rosa and Thomas Zamora. Pallbearers will be Ernie Garcia, Sammy Garcia, Nickolas Sifuentes, Manny Hernandez, Sam Zamora, and Christopher Arellano. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
