Leo (Polo) Lara Sr., Born in Alpine, TX, on Aug. 11, 1938, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's hospital in Tucson, AZ on Dec. 14, 2011 after a long and courageously fought battle with many difficult health issues. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cruzita; their children: John (Eyna), Leo Jr (Martina), David (Cynthia) and Christina; grandchildren: Cynthia, Miranda, Victoria, Adam, Anisa, Hannah and Jensen; step-grandson Tony Maestas and great-grandchildren Nadia, Nathan, Layla and Keeloh.
He also leaves behind his brothers Luis Jr (Alice), Lorenzo (Eduvina) and Leovi (Irma) and his sisters-in-law Pat (Arnold) Chavez and Ida Barrera as well as several nieces, nephews and many very dear friends.
A loving and dedicated family man, Leo proudly served his country. First in the US Army, and then after attending Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX, he started his career in the US Border Patrol in Marfa, TX. He later transferred to Deming, NM, before coming to Tucson 22 years ago and served as a Special Agent in the Anti-Smuggling Unit.
After retirement he worked part-time as a security officer at the Federal Court House. He loved gardening and spoiling his furry "grandchild" Angelina, who is waiting for him to cross the " Rainbow Bridge" into heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Assn., the Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
A mass and memorial service will be held Dec. 27th, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis De Sales Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery on 5801 East Grant Road.
