Manuel H. "Nellis" Chaires, 87, a resident of Deming, passed away Thursday February 23, 2012 at the Silver City Care Center in Silver City.

A graveside service will be Friday, March 2, 2012 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Mountain View Cemetery, with Fr. Joshe Duplissey, Pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Veteran's honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Cremation has taken place at Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
Manuel was born May 23, 1924 in Deming to Jose and Rosalia Chaires. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WW II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Arrowhead.
Manuel was a police officer and had worked with the City of Deming until his retirement in the late 1980's. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially spending time with his granddaughter.
He is survived by 2 sons, Adrian Chaires of Deming, Nick Chaires of Los Angeles, CA and his granddaughter whom he cherished, Jacey Chaires.
