Vance W. Hastings, 59, a resident of Deming, passed away Thursday evening, April 25, 2013, at his home with his family at his side.
Visitation will begin Tuesday morning at 9 at Baca's Funeral Chapel where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Iglesias, Pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Concluding services and interment with honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Vance was born December 10, 1953 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts to Warren and Mayneil Hastings. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976 and has been a resident of Deming for 30 years, having previously lived in Playas when he worked at the Playas Smelter.
After coming to Deming, he was a truck driver and locally owned and operated Heather's Animal Safe Haven with his family. He was a member of the New Mexico Army National Guard and the V.F.W.
Vance is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Hastings of Deming; son Jason Hastings (Holli) of Tucson, AZ; adopted daughter Jennifer Lake of Deming; brother Bill Hastings (Marsha) of Creswell, OR; sisters Sunny Newby (Tom) of Anchorage, AK, Jamie Lee Rickman (Joel) of Las Cruces; 2 grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler; and his nieces and nephews who always held a special place in his heart and in his life.
Pallbearers will be Justin Newby, Bobby Brookhouser, Kyle Warren, Nicole Warren, Bobby Brookhouser Jr. and Tommy Newby.
