Cornelio Barrera, 71, Deming resident, passed away with his loving family at his side at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home on May 3, 2014. Visitation and the prayer vigil were held last evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated today, May 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Rite of committal and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The Rev. Roberto Barreto will officiate. He was born July 10, 1942, in Las Cruces Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Celia Barrera and Eufemio Barrera. He came to the United States to work and lived in California until moving to Deming some 35 years ago. He was a local retail merchant and a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include wife, Sara Cervantes Barrera; two children, Cornelio Barrera II and wife, Blanca, and Alicia Barrera and husband, Tony Ruiz; siblings, Prisciliano and wife, Guadalupe, Hortencia and husband, Jesus M. Calzadillas, Anita and husband, Ricardo Barraza, Minerva and husband, Jose Jaquez, M. Isabel Barraza, Celia Ruiz, Joaquin and wife, Rosalba Barrera, Octavio and wife, Ruth Barrera, Lucio and wife, Silvia. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews; his extended family, who will miss him as he was well-loved. A great son and person to all he met. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Rosalba Caballero. Serving as pallbearers will be Prisciliano, Joaquin, Octavio, Lucio, Marcos and Jesus Barba.
