Hazel Bacon

The Lord sent his angels to welcome home Hazel Ann Chandler Bacon on July 1, 2014. She had been residing in Narvon, Pennsylvania, with her son Russell and his family. She was born in Deming, New Mexico, on Nov. 18, 1924, to Harvey Perman Chandler and Eva Lee Mitchell Chandler. Hazel grew up with a love for horses, alongside her dad who ranched in southwestern New Mexico. She attended church services on horseback with friends during her teen years. She was also a drum majorette and captain of the debate team in high school. During World War II, she met and married Russell Louis Bacon from Salem, New Jersey. They had four children, Carolyn, Gail, Russell and Jeremiah. Hazel was a lifelong equestrian and animal lover with a generous heart and a great sense of humor. Her passion for horses grew even stronger when she left New Mexico for New Jersey and began working with standard bred horses. Hazel would train and groom trotters and pacers for the next 40 years of her life. She began attending Petra Christian Fellowship in New Holland, Pennsylvania, over 15 years ago, and would love to meet with friends and fellowship at church. At the time of her passing, she was grandmother to Wayne Cunningham Jr., Jessica Consol Quillivan, Sarah Bacon Martel, Hanna Bacon and Josiah Bacon, and great-grandmother to Conor Paul Quillivan, and one on the way. Hazel was beloved by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Petra Christian Fellowship, New Holland, Pennsylvania on Aug. 17, 2014, at 3 p.m. in celebration of her life.
