Dechario, Gill Roby
Dechario, Gill Roby Rochester: May 24, 2016. Gill was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Bill Roby. She is survived by her husband, Tony; children, Ted (Liz) Kidd, Todd (Ann) Kidd, Ken (Kristen) Kidd, and Toni Dechario; step-children, Sam Dechario, Rachel (Brad) McGowan, and Rebecca (Tom) Myers; 15 grandchildren, Josh, Evan and Zach McGowan, Joe, Tony, Persephone, Rebekah and Samantha Dechario, Lauren, Andrew and Ryan Kidd, and Jacob, Emma and Paige Kidd; brothers, William Roby and Peter (Kathy) Roby. Gill was born in Rochester, educated at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT and at Skidmore College, where she earned a BSN. She served as Development Director at School of the Holy Childhood, Director of Marketing and Development at MCC, and Executive Director at The Epilepsy Foundation, at The Kidney Foundation of Hawaii and at Horizons at Harley. She was very active in the community, serving during her lifetime on the boards of Rochester Children's Nursery, Women's Coalition for Downtown, Friends of the Rochester Public Library, YWCA, and the founding board of Wilson Commencement Park. She was perhaps most proud of belonging to New Rochester, a group of friends who purchased and renovated many properties in Rochester's Third Ward (now Cornhill) to save them from the bulldozers of urban renewal in the early 70's. Gill enjoyed many sports, especially skiing, tennis and sailing. She and Tony went on several bare boating holidays in Turkey, Croatia, and the Virgin Islands. Known for her sense of adventure, her passion was for travel; she and Tony would often head off to lands afar, language unknown and not viewed as an obstacle. They would use local transportation and revel in eating the local foods and interacting with the local people. She also loved their Chautauqua home, where she spent many summers with friends and family. She was admired for her positive attitude, enthusiasm and good humor, which infected her wide circle of friends. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, 11 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 36 South Main St., Pittsford. A reception immediately follows at church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may send contributions to Horizons, The Harley School, 1981 Clover St., Rochester, NY 14618. To share a memory of Gill or send a condolence to the family visit www.anthonychapels.com .
