During WWII, she was a member of the Dutch resistance. After the war, she was stationed in Freising, Germany, working for UNRRA, helping concentration camp prisoners return to their home countries. Fietje, as her close friends and family knew her, was a devoted mother and grandmother. Though she lived in the United States for nearly 70 years, her Dutch heritage was always a part of family life. She served causes important to her through various organizations including the Rochester Museum and Science Center Women's Council.
