Alfred C. Lawson

Lawson, Alfred C.

Pittsford: January 20, 2013. A native of Glenbrook, CT, Al died peacefully at age 88, predeceased by two brothers, Allan B. Lawson, III and Leroy F. Lawson. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Audrey; daughters, Diane L. Resch (Dave) of Brighton, Robin Lawson Kettleson (Lynn) of MA, and Tracy L. Czuprynski (Dan) of WI; nieces and nephews in CT, SC and TN.

A US Navy veteran assigned to the destroyer, John R Pierce, DD 753, before it was commissioned gave him the distinction of being a Plankowner and Tin Can Sailor. His introduction to Stevens Institute of Technology via the Navy convinced him to return there to earn his BS in ME in1949. After 18 years with General Electric in MA, he brought his family to Perinton in 1969 when he became an engineering manager at what was then the Castle Co. An avid learner, he took every course offered by GE and continued to expand his knowledge in engineering, wood working, art, piano, choral singing with the Rochester Oratorio Society and Bach Festival Chorus. His penchant for teaching led him to mentoring in Fairport schools, becoming a Literacy Volunteer. He was a member of Fairport VFW Post 8495 as well. "Al, Alf, Alfie or Dad-zo" to his family and many friends will be sorely missed. He and "Audie" moved in 2004 to Cloverwood Senior Living, where he enjoyed some happy years. His family wishes to thank the staff at Lovejoy TCC at The Friendly Home and Lifetime Care for their kindnesses.

A celebration to honor his memory will be held at the convenience of his family. Interment will be at White Haven Memorial Park, along their nature trail. Contributions may be made to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, 108 East Avenue, Rochester, 14604. To share a memory of Al or send a condolence to the family visit www.anthonychapels.com.
