Chapin, Arthur Buell

Fairport: Husband, father, and grandfather Arthur Buell Chapin of Fairport, NY, died Sunday, January 13th of complications from respiratory illness.

Born in Canandaigua, NY on November 24, 1922, Chapin attended Canandaigua Academy, the University of Rochester; and was awarded a masters degree from the University of Florida. His Undergraduate studies were interrupted by World War II, where he served as an infantry scout in France.

Chapin began his career at Brighton High School in 1949. Initially an English and History teacher, he went on to become the Director of Guidance, and eventually the Vice Principal in charge of scheduling. Upon retirement in 1978, he found much to keep him busy: Chapin was an avid hunter, fisherman, and woodworker. A multi-faceted craftsman, he himself built the family homestead in Fairport, NY.

Arthur Chapin married Gail Ann Sheerin in 1949, losing her to illness in 2008. He is survived by his son John ("Jack") Chapin, his daughter Vicki Guidice and her husband Anthony; and by his granddaughter Sarah Guidice.
