Farmington, NY: Died unexpectedly on January 3, 2014 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Chuck was born in Rochester, NY on August 13, 1939 and raised by his parents, Bertha Miller Marthage and Harold Marthage in Rochester. Chuck had 2 brothers, Donald Marthage and Stephen Marthage, both currently of Rochester, NY.
After leaving high school, Chuck served in the Army
until 1960 and the Navy until 1964, being honorably discharged from both. While in the Navy, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After serving, he returned to Rochester where he met his future wife Norma Sanford. They were married on July 3, 1965 the same year he started working at Rochester Products Division of General Motors
, first on the factory floor then taking a position has a UAW union steward. He enjoyed his union work tremendously. He retired in 1999 after 34 years.
Chuck and Norma had three children, Tammy Marthage of Greece, NY, Brian Marthage of Manchester, Vermont and Michelle Sparks of Bloomfield, NY. Chuck enjoyed taking his family camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks. Particularly memorable were the extended canoe camping trips they took. His favorite place was Tupper Lake, NY and he passed on his love of the outdoors to his children. Chuck was an avid bowler throughout his life. For the last several years, he developed great friendships in the Springwater, NY camping community.
Chuck and Norma raised their granddaughter Ashley and relished their time with her. He had four other beloved grandchildren, Amanda Sparks of Bloomfield, N.Y. and Katherine, Theodore and Madeline Marthage, all of Manchester, Vermont.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma; 2 brothers; his 3 children; 5 grandchildren; and his loving dog. He will be greatly missed and never far from our hearts.
Calling will be Thursday 11-3PM at the Jarmusz-Cotton Funeral Home (Victor, NY). Chuck's Memorial Service will follow at 3PM in the Funeral Home. Interment Private.
