Contant, Harold A.

Henrietta: Former school administrator from Henrietta died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. He was 94. Harold was born and raised in Williamson NY, the son of Jennie and Edward Contant. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1940 with a B.S. degree in business education. He taught at Holley High School, where he met his wife Jane Sheerin, also a teacher. They were married in December of 1941. Harold served in the Philippines as a Navy lieutenant (jg) during World War II. After the war, he resumed his teaching career at Red Jacket High School in Manchester, first as business teacher then as vice principal. In 1957 the family moved to Garden Parkway in Henrietta when Harold became assistant superintendent for business for Rush-Henrietta. He served in that post until his retirement in 1974.

Predeceased by his wife Jane in 1997 and his brother Allen, principal of Waterloo High School, in 1982. Survived by his children Ed (Karen) of Scottsdale, AZ, Anne (Joseph) Gusmano of Riverhead, NY, and his four beloved and loving granddaughters: Kristen, Erica, Kate and Liz and their families, including 3 great-grandsons and one imminent great-granddaughter. In addition, he is survived by his devoted companion and friend, Carol Heise, and her large and loving family.

Funeral arrangements by Young Funeral Home in Williamson NY. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm in Maplewood Cemetery on Middle Road in Henrietta on Monday, May 20th. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Friendly Home Memory Care Staff Appreciation Fund, 3156 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14618.
