Pelkey, James D. Jr.
Brighton: January 24, 2014, age 89. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona "Lee"; children, Christine (Wayne) Ellis, Nancy Pelkey and Barbara (Michael) Dwyer; grandchildren, Nels, Korovin, Erin, William and Meghan; sister, Mildred (Chester) Villa; several nieces and nephews. A graduate of Syracuse University College of Forestry in 1950. He retired from the City of Rochester as a Landscape Arthitect. James was a member of the Annunciation Church Holy Name Society, American Legion VFW
and Rochester Bow Hunters. He was a proud WWII
Navy Veteran serving as a Signalman, 2nd Class on LST 497 from commissioning to decommissioning and participated in the D-Day landing. He had the privilege of attending Honor Flight Mission 23 in 2012.
Friends may call Friday 4-7 PM at the Dierna Funeral Home, 2309 Culver Road (near Norton). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10:30 AM, St. Kateri Parish at St. Cecilia's Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight Rochester in James' memory.
