West Chester, PA: John Geoffrey Leinen, Ph.D., died Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in West Chester, PA, where he resided for the past 23 years. John was the son of the late John R. Leinen and Jeanne S. Leinen, who resides in Pittsford, NY. John also is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Patricia; three devoted daughters Sarah L. (Jeff) Severino of Ocean, NJ, Megan R. Leinen of Washington, DC, and Kathryn J. Leinen of New York, NY; brothers Raymond F. Leinen II of Painted Post, NY, and Douglas P. Leinen of Chadds Ford, PA; a sister Laura J. Leinen of Waltham, MA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born in Rochester, NY, John graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Brown University and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Following postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago, Ben May Laboratories for Cancer Research, John was employed for 15 years by two large reference testing laboratories, Roche Biomedical Laboratories (now Laboratory Corporation of America) in Dublin, OH, and Burlington, NC, and SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories (now Quest Laboratories) in Norristown, PA. From 1995 to 2011, John held managerial positions at several medical communications and pharmaceutical companies, including Scientific Frontiers, Inc, Trinity Communications, Inc, and Cephalon, Inc, and was a consultant on various continuing medical education programs. John enjoyed family vacations to Corolla on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and was an avid surf fisherman.
