Pittsford: April 5, 2013 following a brief illness, at age 93.A long-time and popular resident of the Highlands at Pittsford, Mr. Gallagher was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Josephine (Jessie). He is survived by his daughters Jane (Norm) Silverstein and Nancy (Bob) Tucker, seven grandsons, Ben and Lee Silverstein, Jay, Kevin and Jeff Henson, and Clay and James Tucker, and brother, Joseph.

A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Mr. Gallagher was a veteran of World War II, serving on a U.S. Navy Destroyer in the Pacific campaign. He was among the first Americans to witness the destructive power of the atomic bomb, touring Nagasaki just two weeks after the bomb was dropped.

Mr. Gallagher worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, later moving to Annapolis, MD where he continued his work for the Navy and then for a military contractor. He and his wife Jessie moved to Pittsford in 2001 to be closer to family.

Mr. Gallagher was beloved by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. In addition to being an accomplished golfer, a fan of horse racing and an avid photographer, he will be remembered for his storytelling and quick Irish wit.

His family will receive friends on Monday, April 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Avenue). A Memorial Service will be held at the chapel at the Highlands at Pittsford on Tuesday, April 9, at 11:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WXXI Public Broadcasting.
