Fernandina Beach, FL: Joyce M. Aldrich, 79, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday evening June 28, 2013. Born on June 13, 1934 in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Teresina Miller of Rochester, NY. She was reared in Rochester where she graduated from Monroe High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart Kenneth H. Aldrich in 1951. She was an avid dancer and in 1953 she opened the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Reno, NV. Her career later took her to Montreal, CA in 1955 where she operated the Arthur Murray Studios. In 1958 she relocated to Santa Monica, CA, and entered the medical field as the Human Relations Director at Marina Mercy Hospital in Marina Del Rey, CA. She went on to attend the Nursing Program at the UCLA
Extension School in Westwood, CA, where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Several years later, Mrs. Aldrich received her educational certificate as a Special Education Teacher for the Santa Monica School District. In 1998, she and her husband Kenneth moved to Amelia Island to make their home. She joined the St Peters Episcopal Church where she enrolled in a four year course in Education for Ministry receiving her certificate in 2012. She founded a group called "The Seekers" that studies various religious philosophies and continues to carry on the goals that she established. Mrs. Aldrich leaves behind her husband almost 50 years, Kenneth, her daughters, Janet K. Locker of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Nicole Mensonides of Santa Monica, CA, her son Kenneth G. Aldrich of San Antonio, TX, and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church, 801 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
