N. Castor Obituary

Castor, N. Stephen

Nunda, NY: N. Stephen Castor, 83, joined his children Karen, Jon, and David in heaven on January 2, 2014, in the arms of his wife, Carol (Tuttle). He is survived by his children Miriam (Michael) DaBramo, Rick (Laurel) Castor, and Cathy (Mark) Collier and their mother Connie Jackson, and step-son Justin (Christi) Smith. He is also survived by siblings Richard (Diana), Molly (Hale) Johnson, Phil (Beckie), Cathy (Dave) Hicks, 9 beloved grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve taught English in Webster and held administrative positions in several school districts in western New York. He retired as Superintendent of Schools in Bath, NY. Steve was a graduate of Houghton College, the U of R, and a John Jay Fellow at Northwestern University.

After retiring, Steve and Carol taught in Papua New Guinea and Lithuania. He loved teaching anything, especially English. Steve shared his enthusiasm for tennis, skiing, chess, sailing, and music with everyone. Steve was the founder of Habitat for Humanity of Livingston County. He was an active member of the Houghton Wesleyan Church.

Memorial contributions in Steve's name may be directed to Houghton Wesleyan Church where a Memorial Service will be held on March 1, 2014.

Mr.Castor meant a lot to the Class of 1962. We enjoyed his presence at our 50th reunion in 2012. He will be remembered fondly and truly missed.
