Buckett, Nancy (Finnan)

Pittsford: Died peacefully on April 6, 2011. Survived by her loving daughters, Deirdre Mincer, Laurie Salko (Scott) and Cristine Buckett (Lawrence Johnson), her grandchildren Emma, Cody & Lawrence, and her many dear friends. Nancy will be remembered for her unrivaled passion for life, her love of people, her avid sense of adventure, her thirst for knowledge and her irrepressible sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother and a devoted friend.

Raised in New Hyde Park, NY, by her beloved parents, Tom and Clara, Nancy was graduated from Adelphi University where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She taught third grade before moving to Rochester, where she raised her family and planted firm roots in the community. Her interests included teaching, traveling, reading, entertaining, gardening, golfing, Scrabble and the arts. She was the owner of the Oxford Gallery for ten years, and then an art appraiser until her retirement.

Nancy served as the Board President of the Aesthetic Education Institute, Vice President of the Women's Council of the Memorial Art Gallery, Member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the School of the Arts, Garth Fagan Dance, Rochester Art Dealers Association, The James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, and Friends of the Rochester Public Library. She also volunteered at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, the Landmark Society, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Sonnenberg Gardens, Channel 21 Auctions, and was a member of the Chatterbox Club.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful caring staff of the 3400 Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital and to Nancy's doctors.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607, or James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Box 704, Rochester, NY 14642.
