Norma Jane (Keagle) Thompson

Thompson, Norma Jane (Keagle)

Chili, NY: Passed away December 17, 2012, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, at age 85. Norma was born on October 15, 1927, in Olean, New York. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Richard Thompson, her sister, Marion Keagle, her children Donald (Cheryl), Marion Bulger (Kim Begandy), Stephen (Beth), Kurt (Lisa), 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Norma graduated from Cornell University with a degree in teaching. She grew up on Willow Street in Olean, in the same house where she later met Richard Thompson, a young English teacher who came to board and who, scandalously, kept beer in the refrigerator. They married and moved to Jamestown, where they began their family and made many dear friends, then moved to Rochester.

Norma was a thoughtful and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who spent her life caring for others. She devoted her free time to her family and to volunteer work with her church, FISH, Meals on Wheels, the Fresh Air program, and the 4-H Club. We will miss her very much.

A memorial service in Norma's honor will be held at Pearce Memorial Church, 4322 N. Chili, NY at 7:00 p.m. Thurs. 12/20 w/reception immediately following. No prior calling hours.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at St. John's Home, 4 South for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Norma's honor to the or Pearce Memorial Church.
