Penfield, NY: November 19, 2012. Ray was born on January 18, 1945 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd R. Gust and Roberta V. Gust, and his sister, Diane C. Gust. Ray is survived by his spouse, Martin Jones; his brother, David (Joyce) of San Antonio, TX; his brother, Paul (Cindy) of Austin, TX; nieces, Julie Lovelace, Kristine Standen and their spouses; nephews, Joel Gust and Ben Gust and his constant companion, Bean.
Ray was a veteran having served in the Navy during the Vietnam War
tracking enemy radar as a reconnaissance specialist.
Ray worked at the 3M Corporation in St. Paul, MN before moving to Rochester in 1981 where he served in various management positions at Xerox, before retiring in 2009.
The RBTL and Blackfriars Theatre have benefited from Ray's passion for theatre for the past 28 years. At the RBTL you could find Ray at the main doors as a ticket taker and in recent years as a house manager. He brought his organizational skills as well by setting up systems to improve efficiency in the volunteer usher program. While at Blackfriars, Ray did everything from acting, stage managing, lighting to sweeping floors. His most recent activity there was with graphic design including for the world premier of "Melanie and The Record Man". He was also involved with several other community groups over the years.
Ray's ashes will be scattered at Gooseberry Falls State Park in Minnesota. This was a favorite place for Ray to visit as a child.
A memorial service to celebrate Ray's life will be held at the Blackfriars Theatre, 795 Main Street, Rochester, NY 14605 on December 8th at 3PM.
In lieu of flowers, Ray requested donations be made to the RBTL Education for the Arts or to Blackfriars Theatre.
