Haye, Dr. Shirleyanne Elizabeth

Greensboro, NC: Passed on Saturda,y November 24, 2012 in Greensboro, NC. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago on September 19, 1954. She earned a Ph.D. in Bioinorganic Chemistry at Howard University in 1989 and began her career as Principal Research Scientist at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY, where she spearheaded multiple photographic technologies and obtained 30 US patents. In 2003, she received the Distinguished Inventors Award at Kodak. Shirleyanne moved to Greensboro, NC in 2005 to assume the position of Senior Research Chemist at Lorlliard Tobacco Company where she worked until her passing. Her colleagues describe her as a wonderful listener who was intelligent, caring and strong.

Shrleyanne loved to give back to family and community. She instituted programs at Kodak for educating minority students, assumed leadership roles in the Caribbean Association, and participated in the United Way Campaigns where she lived.

Shirleyanne was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She actively participated in activities around her children to include Girl and Boy Scouts, soccer, and basketball.

Shirleyanne was predecreased by her parents, Alfred and Dorrie Haye. Shirleyanne is survived by her husband, Joffre H. Baron; two children, Javar and Saundra Baron; brothers and sisters, Cynthia, Leroy (Merle), Lyris (Victor Graham), Cleopatra, Lennox (Gina), Carl, Jocelyn, Hollis (Cynthia), Mavis, and Ingrid; special nephews, Chevron Clarke (Gina) and Kester Baron; and many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her joy, encouragement, teaching and love that enriched her friends, family and community.
