Clearwater, FL: Spiro Petrakis, 82, of 2253 Norwegian Avenue, Clearwater, FL, and formerly of Rochester, died on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL, following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 6, 1931, in Romania, the son of Nicholas and Euphrosine Ionescu Petrakis. Spiro spent his early years in Romania, coming to the United States in 1950, and has lived in Rochester most of his life. He has lived in Clearwater since 2000. He worked for Bausch & Lomb in Rochester for 20 years, later working for Plumber Precision Optics in Palm, PA, for 15 years, retiring in 1996. Spiro loved fishing and bowling. He served in the Merchant Marines for 5 years. Spiro was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Denise Petrakis of Rochester; a daughter, Catherine and Frederick Hart, Jr., of Oneida; five grandchildren, Joseph and Jessy Hart, Deady Hart and Gary Shlotzhauer, Benjamin Petrakis, Heather and Dave DeCarlo, and Holly and Patrick McLean; four great grandchildren, Nicholas Hart, Kyra Shlotzhauer, Sophia Hart, and Gianna Petrakis; a sister-in-law, Maria Petrakis of Redwood, CA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Spiro was predeceased by a grandson, Galen Hart; two brothers, his twin, Sam Petrakis, and Thanos Petrakis; and two sisters, Anna Kaplanis, and Dia Soures.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, 22, 2013, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. The Rev. David Smith, pastor of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Syracuse, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Merrillsville. Calling hours will be held on Monday, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the
