Tomasz Kaczowka Obituary
Marian
Webster: Tomasz Marian Kaczowka, at the age of 19, passed away in the line of duty with his mentor and close friend, Lt. Michael "Chip" Chiapperini on December 24, 2012.
Tomasz was born May 16, 1993 in Rochester, NY to Janina and Marian Kaczowka. He attended Webster Thomas High School, graduating in 2011.
After high school, Tomasz committed his life to Civil Service through several avenues. Whether it was through working the overnight shift as an emergency dispatch operator for the City of Rochester, or waking up all hours of the night to attend various emergencies, this selfless young man devoted every spare ounce of his effort and courage to help those who needed it, right to the end. Everyone's "little brother" died doing what he loved.
He is survived by his mother and father, Janina and Marian; along with his older twin brothers, Dariusz and Greg; grandparents, Mieczyslaw and Stanislawa Lysik; aunts, Alicia (Wladek) Wojtowicz and Teresa Lysik; uncle, Stefan (Jolanta) Lysik; and loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Rochester and Poland, and the extended family at West Webster Fire Department.
The public may call 6-9 PM Friday, 12-3 & 6-9 PM Saturday at Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road, Webster. Tomasz's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at St. Stanislaus Church (Hudson Ave. at Norton St., Rochester) at 10 AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Webster Fire Dept. or St. Stanislaus Church in Tomasz's memory.

My ex-husband was a Webster fireman for many years and he loved all his comrades in arms. When this tragedy happened I remember Peter was devastated as were all the fireman. Peter is with Tomasz as he passed 6 years ago and I am sure they are swapping great stories from their firefighting days. Blessings to you all this Christmas!

7 years have come and gone and I rewrite this message of love and concern for you, Tomasz' family because I know first hand that your broken hearts will need God's divine mercy and strength for the coming days, weeks, months and years. My brother, Lt. Joseph Leavey, FDNY, was killed on September 11th 2001 and I and my family were changed forever. Time has healed us along the way but the thoughts, prayers and kindness shown by friends, family, the fire department and strangers around the world was so important and reinforcing to us on our saddest days that I encourage you to take in and cherish all this love and concern that is coming your way to keep you functioning and uplifted. My family and I can relate to in the most intimate of ways to your loss. Tomasz will live on in your memories and in others memories for the example of unselfishness and bravery that he set in the way he lived his life. I pray that others will follow in his footsteps; his love for humanity showed through in the way he lived his short but impactful life. Our family will pray for yours from this day forward. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. God give you strength and I pray that your precious faith carries all of you through all your days to come. Just this past year my husband and I attended a Sunday liturgy at St. Stanislaus and we saw the beautiful stained glass tribute to your son. It is your precious faith that sustains you. It is healing for people to share their losses and grief. My family lost a 35 year old mother of three young children six years ago, and we set up a foundation for her and her kids, which raises money to help the less fortunate children in a local, poorer community. There was a lot of publicity and outpouring of support regarding the circumstances of your son's passing, but I also know that his life and loss is a very personal and private affair which his brother eloquently and courageously expressed during his eulogy. I thank his family for their courage, strength and kindness and for letting people share their own stories about Tomasz. Chief Seattle wisely said, "There is no death, only a change of worlds."

We pray for your family during this tragedy. He and our son have both followed the same passion in life to become a firefighter and serve others. From being a jr. firefighter, to going to MCC to follow their dreams, to being a 911 operator in our county, a volunteer fireman in our town. We understand his determination to help others. I may have only met Tomasz once or twice, but I knew his brothers Dariusz and Greg from high school. I was deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy on Christmas Eve. When I first heard his name, I wondered if it was the same little guy I worked with at DeWitt. When I saw his picture, I could see the wonderful smile and twinkling eyes that I first saw many years ago. I am not surprised that he became such an outstanding young man.
