Wagman, Irwin

Brighton: Irwin Wagman, 80, died November 28, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with mantle cell lymphoma. He is predeceased by parents, William and Bertha Wagman and wife, Muriel Mortman. He is survived his by loving wife, Fayanne Bernis Wagman; sons, Bruce (Marcie), Daniel and Matthew (Jane); stepchildren, David and Jonathan (Elisangela) Bernis and Susan (Todd) Gray; grandchildren, Bekah, Ari and Shane Wagman, Teva, Liel and Hannah Bernis, Madeline and Rachel Gray; sister, Anne (Larry) Walowitz; niece and nephew, Risa (Henry) Steinberger and Nathan (Laurie) Walowitz.

Born in Queens, NY, Irwin received a BS in Engineering from the University of Rochester, followed by a Master's degree from the University of Michigan. He moved to Rochester to begin a 30 year career at Xerox Corporation. He was a respected BSA scout master of Troop 3 for many years. After retiring, he loved traveling with his family and enjoyed his involvement with numerous computer and horticulture organizations, where he held several leadership roles. He was active in various service organization including Gilda's Club and Better Day Buddies. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2 PM at Brighton Memorial Chapel (3325 Winton Road South). Interment Britton Road Cemetery. Shiva will be held Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at 2470 East Avenue, Apt. 607.

I met Irwin 10 years ago while I was working at the JCC. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a kind man who I thoroughly enjoyed talking to. He was genuinely interested on the lives of others. My thoughts are with his family.

Such a loving, caring man. It was a privilege to have met him and worked with him at the computer training program at the JCC. He always put his students at ease and was able to help everybody. Even when he was not feeling well he wore a smile on his face and made students feel right at home. He was a committed user of Macintosh but he never was militant in his belief of the quality of the brand and was able to use his patience and teaching skills to help users of both Macintosh and IBM type computers. He will be missed by many, many people. It was a privilege to have known him. I will miss his kind words to me and his advice on dealing with my lymphoma. His bravery on facing life with a severe lymphoma was an example for all to emulate.
