Many years ago my mom went to the bank and was told that she could not cash her Social Security check because they had been notified that she was dead. My mom was so upset and had no idea what to do, so we sat down and wrote a letter to Congresswoman Slaughter. Within just a couple of days my mom received a phone call from Congresswoman Slaughter's office to say that everything was straightened out, and my mom was given a direct line phone number to call if she had any other problem. We were so grateful. We've both sung her praises ever since.

As a teen in the 70's I put her campaign flier in the doors all over Fairport. Sadly I took her for granted, that she would be here forever, righting the wrong, fixing the world. Beautiful service today. Beautiful family.

You were my Representative in Congress when I was in high school and all the way into my middle-age. Thank you for working on countless issues, fighting so many fights and standing for what's right for all of us in the Rochester area all these years! You were a great Democrat, U.S. Representative and American!
With gratitude to Congresswoman Slaughter, and deep sympathy to all of her family,

I was working at a sandwich shop near Kodak Park on the day Louise was elected to the House of Representatives. Our lunch hours were always busy, but she and several companions came in just after the rush. When I delivered their order, I whispered to her, "I gave you my vote this morning." She smiled, and whispered back, "I will do my best to deserve it," and she did. Louise, I want to thank you for your service, your dedication to this district, and especially for your decency and compassion. In the early 90's, a friend of mine was distraught about a legal issue involving her family and didn't know whereto turn. She called you at home, and you answered. You were leaving for a quiet dinner with you husband, yet listened patiently through my friend's tearfully ramblings and pointed her in the right direction. I have never felt that my vote and my trust were more deserved.

Condolences to all of the family on your great loss. Louise meant so much to all of us in greater New York. I first met Louise at Woman's Hall of Fame events in Seneca Falls and later many democratic events. She was a wonderful, energetic fighter for women's rights and justice, and will be greatly missed.

Words can not express the sorrow I am feeling for the Slaughter family, their friends and the community as a whole. We have lost a great voice in Washington, a voice that was there for the common good of our country. Louise was a treasure that I know we will all miss. Thank you Louise for a job well done.
