Anton van der Jagt Obituary

van der Jagt, Anton

Pittsford: March 12, 2016. Peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ at age 94. Predeceased (2009) by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth van der Jagt (née van Esch), four brothers and one sister. Survived by three sisters-in-law; his children, Arjo (Thijs), Élise (Jan), Johan, and Antoinette (John) Cantrell; grandchildren, Theresa, (fiancée Brian), Christina (Kareem), Rosemarie, Anthony, Daniel, Michael (Samantha), Matthew, Elizabeth (Bob), Jonathan (Mary), Benjamin, Rebecca (Matt), Hannah, Cameron, Adrianna, Lance, Aletta; great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was born in the Netherlands, was a member of the Dutch Resistance in Rotterdam during World War II, then immigrated to Canada and later to the United States. He was an eminent engineer specializing initially in television tubes, then in optics and laser research. He was a certified apiarist, an avid reader, and authored books about the church and for youth, including The Escape (translated into 4 languages). Throughout his life he demonstrated his strong love for the Christian faith, teaching its basic tenets to both young and old. Above all, he loved his wife and family and was a role model for what a husband and father should be.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 15th, from 6-9 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). On Wednesday, March 16th, a brief graveside service will be held at 9:45 AM in White Haven Memorial Park followed by a worship service at 11:00 AM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3201 Dewey Ave. Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Opa has gone to glory, where he will never forget His Saviour or anything else. We here on earth have many good memories to remember him by. I will cherish the squirrel book he wrote! Love and prayers from Els Drijfhout and family.
