Rochester: February 12, 2013 at age 83. Predeceased by her parents, Knute & Evelyn Korneliusen; niece, Karen Ann Hill; brother-in-law, Joseph Leone and her good friend, Marietta Lombardo. Survived by her brothers and sisters: Karen Hayes, Gary (Nancy), Helene (Larry) Southwick, Thomas (Gail), Linda Leone, Wallis Nichols and James (Suzanne); 8 nieces, 8 nephews, 5 great-nieces, 13 great-nephews, 1 great-grand nephew. She leaves behind her many close friends Jocelyn Rowley, Rose Fisher and Ina Lombardo, Eleanor Jordan, Nancy and Fred Meyer, Lucy Gratch, Blair and Gladys Marelli, Anne Staley, Rita Stehle. Barbara earned her Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Brockport, a Master's Degree from Hofstra University and did doctoral work at New York University. Barbara taught physical education in the Rome, Hempstead, and Riverhead School Districts, retiring in 1986. She was a advocate for Title IX Sports, and a life promoter of women's athletics in Section XI Sports. An avid traveler, Barbara explored Europe six times and enjoyed the Caribbean twenty-one times. She was a gourmet cook and entertained numerous family and friends at her table. A lover of the arts, she introduced her family and friends to the enjoyment the arts provide. She was an inspiration to all who knew her by being an exemplary example of dedication to one's beliefs, aspirations and the enjoyment of the company of her family and friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Fairport Baptist Home, 7th floor staff at Highland Hospital and the Hospice staff of Lifetime Care.
Friends may call Saturday February 23rd from 12:00-2:00 at the funeral home, 777 Long Pond Road (between English & Latta). A Memorial Service will immediately follow calling hours. Interment private. Contributions may be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fpt. 14450 or
