Blake Cognata Obituary
Fairport: January 12, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer at age 17. Survived by his mother, Diane Calcagno; father, Rick (Suzanne) Cognata; sister, Brittney; grandparents; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
No prior calling. Memorial Mass, Thursday 2:30 PM at St. John of Rochester Church, Fairport where it will be broadcasted simultaneously at the Fairport High School Auditorium and Gymnasium for Fairport High School students and their families only. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Scholarship Fund will be established in Blake's name coming in the near future. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital 4-3600 and PICU.

Blake was a young man with a wonderful charismatic personality - an outstanding attribute that prevailed to the end.
He was an exceptional young man for his family, for his humanity, and for his friendships. There was nothing remote about Blake's sense of dignity, strength and courage - making the point beyond words.
Caring and sharing was his signature. He was so enthusiastic in his quest to help others and strived to communicate with people at the deepest, human level.
I believe so much of Blake's legacy will be carried forward through the unconditional love of his family, relatives and an extended family of friends.
There was a kindness, simplicity and goodness of character that marked so many years of Blake's life.
Many people will walk in and out of our lives, but it is this special love Blake shared with so many, that will leave the deepest footprints in our hearts.
I have heard countless expressions and tributes of affection toward Blake Cognata. It has to do with his giving of himself so readily and openly. I don't believe he ever had a shallow relationship. For his loved ones, Blake kept a place in his heart that never grew old.
Blake's lose is keenly felt throughout his community and beyond. But I believe his spirit will take comfort and rejoice in the afterlife. For wherever there are no limits, where eternity and infinity exists, that's where God is, and that's where Blake joined his departed loved ones.
And believing as he did that there is a plan at work in each life, Blake accepted not only the great duties that came to him in life, but also the great trials that came near the end.
As we close the final chapter of Blake's life here on Earth, I'd like to say: "Blake, we honor your courage, your grace, and above all, the great love you gave to so many." Let that be a part of your legacy.
