Fairport: Died January 28, 2013 at age 97. She was born in Warsaw, New York, on February 14, 1915, but lived most of her life in and around the Rochester area. She graduated from Brighton High School, attended nursing school, and married E. Philip Kron in 1937. During World War II, Ellie raised two young sons and travelled with Phil as he was stationed in Ogden, UT, Denver, CO, and Brookville, OH. They returned to upstate New York following the war, finally settling down in Greece, where she bore their third son. Ellie had an adventurous nature, cracking a rib learning to water ski in her late forties, and breaking a wrist ice-skating in her fifties. She then took up the less physically punishing activity of guitar lessons. Always a good neighbor, Ellie was a founding member of the Greece Community Home Study Club in Koda Vista, an organization devoted to learning about and raising good children in a positive home environment. She played bridge regularly in Georgetown Commons where she lived for over thirty years. Ellie had many friends in both Greece and Fairport, and her caring heart embraced not only immediate family, but in-laws, nieces and nephews, and countless cousins across the United States. She liked to vacation with Phil at Skytop Lodge in PA, and at their winter home in Hobe Sound, FL. Mostly she enjoyed summers at Shale Point on Owasco Lake, where she delighted in seeing her children, grand-children, and great grand-children grow up. "Gram" always had a hug, and a Bit-O-Honey candy for her many family members. A lover of music, she introduced her children to recordings of folk songs, symphonies, and show tunes. Her own preference was for opera, and she never missed her Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts. Weekend visits with her always meant watching re-runs of The Lawrence Welk Show and listening to details about the lives of every performer. She also loved flowers, particularly her Betty Prior roses, her African violets, and the annual Lilac Festival in Highland Park. She was extremely generous and supported many charitable organizations. Knitting sweaters for the Guidepost charity was one of her many activities. She was a long-standing member of Greece Baptist Church, and spent her final months receiving excellent care at the Fairport Baptist Home.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband Emerson Philip Kron. She is survived by a brother James Hill (Wilma), sons, Philip (Mary Lou), James (Wendy), and John (Kathleen), eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and long-time friend Jackie Carson. A private ceremony will be held later this year. Contributions may be made to the Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Rd., Rochester, NY 14626.To share a memory of Eleanor or send a condolence to the family visit www.anthonychapels.com.
