Florence Bruno Obituary

Bruno, Florence T. (Flo)

Turchetti, Leone,

Battista

"Flo's Home Bakery"

Rochester: April 10, 2015 at the age of 98. Went peacefully to the Lord with her loving daughters at her side. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Philip, Parents James and Filonila and stepmom Marietta who raised her. Also her siblings, Guido, Dominic, Ida Turchetti, Olga (Turchetti) Roth. She is survived by her daughters, Dolores (James) Leone, Diane (Ralph) Battista; her loyal and loving grandchildren, James (Marcy) Leone, David (Tina) Battista, Jeffrey Leone, Jason (Tammy) Leone, Michelle (Tim) Rogers of Ca, former granddaughter-in-law, Bonnie (Murray,Leone), great grandchildren, Alivia Rogers of Ca, Gordon and Melina Leone, Alexa and Benjamin Leone, Sydney and Connor Leone, Alex and Alanna Battista; Millie Finocchio her first cousin, best friend as well as her roommate at the Jewish Home; nieces and nephews.

Flo and her husband Phil owned and operated Flo's Home Bakery on the corner of Bay and Morton Streets for over 20 years, where they worked together making Rochester's first pizza pie and some of the best breads and pastries. Flo started baking bread at home and her husband started delivering free loaves to both the East and West sides of the city. Soon people began ordering bread and other pastries, this was the beginning of Flo's Home Bakery. Our Dad always said he would put our Mom's name in lights someday and he did.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff (and the special ones, you know who you are) at the Jewish Home 5-SW who became her extended family.

Friends are invited to meet the family SATURDAY 9:00 AM at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 N. Fitzhugh St. for her Funeral Mass with a reception to follow. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House in her memory. Private interment Webster Rural Cemetery. Sorry we're so late getting this out. Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mom. Our Mom and Flo at least had some years together in the Jewish Home. May she and your Dad rest in peace and find heaven together. I remember when the bakery first started and your Dad would come to our house delivering bread, pastries, etc. Long time ago!!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of my family and friends who wrote such beautiful memories and tributes to my Mom and Flo's Home Bakery. She and my Dad worked very hard every day, side by side to make my Dad's dreams come true. Reading what u have all written made me smile but also brought tears to my eyes. She was loved so much by so many and it so heartwarming to read that u took the time out to sign the guest book. Thanks so much and love...to Janet Schmidt, Mary Jo

My deepest sympathy to the family of this wonderful woman.
My fondest childhood memories were visits to the bakery on allowance day, I have yet to taste a cinnamon twist as good and the brownies with frosting were to die for. You never left without, there was always something your nickels and pennies could buy, hence my love for Jordan Almonds.I'll never forget my first Pizza pie, her's was the best....they don't make that
as good today!
But the best was Flo, at the bakery or at home (2 doors down and across the street from our house) she was such a
loving and generous lady. May she rest in peace.

Diane....and family....My deepest expressions of sorrow for your loss. Diane, we go a long ways back, even before my family became customers at the bakery (which was probably not too long after it opened). When people rave about pizza like Pizza Hut, I tell them they don't know pizza like I know, having had Flo's! We've become closer in the last few years than when we were kids, and it makes my heart happy that we are. We had the best, living where we did as kids, didn't we? Love you. Janet

Working for Flo's was my fitst job. l was sixteen and still in high school and would work after school and weekends. The bakery was right on the corner of the street where I lived. I have many fine memories of Flo she was a great lady. There is and was no bakery better since Flo's Bakery closed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Dear Diane and Delores,

I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mother was always a very special woman in my life and I remember her fondly.

My Dad (Angelo) decorated cakes at Flo's for years. One of my fondest memories was sitting on a stool next to the bakers bench watching him magically twirl roses out of the pastry tube. Flo, in her white uniform and white shoes was always generous to the curious little girl who I'm sure was in the way.

The smell of an authentic bakery takes me back to Flo's Home Bakery and the wonder of all the delicious foods there. And of course, your parents generosity and wonderful laughter.

I know she will be missed by her family and friends.

Aunt Flo was the best. She could cook, bake and smile all the time. I always loved to go to the cottage as a kid and have her chocolate pie. Time for a family reunion in heaven.

"A lover of life" that's how I would describe Flo. She always had a big, contagious smile on her face...her presence would light up a room. Maybe the heavens will be a little brighter now!!!

It was a treat to go to Flo's, I remember it like it was yesterday and not the 50 years it really is! She had the best italian cookies. She always gave me my favorite with the pretty pink swirl of frosting. Still mention it in conversation when bakeries come up. Flo created some wonderful memories for many. May she rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss. I grew up on Webster Avenue and loved going to Flo's Home Bakery for a certain treat. It was a small square frosted cake covered in "jimmies" with a dollop of jelly in the middle. As a matter of fact, I could go for one of them right now!
