Collins, Gerald E. "Jerry"
Brighton: Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 8, 2010, three days shy of his 86th birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Connie; children Deene (George) Kennon, Chris (Mary) Collins, Joy (Maggie) Collins, Lynn (Yogi) Schiller, Claudia (John) Topping, Marcia (Brian) Geary, Ted (Susan) Collins; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; predeceased by brother, Bob.
Jerry was a Captain in Patton's US Army in Germany in World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star. A graduate of Norwich University, he worked around the country for General Electric Company for 20 years and was President of General Railway Signal (GRS) in Rochester for 21 years. He was passionate about his community board work, including Rochester Community Savings Bank, St. John Fisher College, Center for Government Research, Boy Scouts, Industrial Management Council, Career Development Services, Strong Memorial Hospital, and Genesee Region Home Health Care. He was equally passionate about downhill skiing and the game of golf. He was a member of Oak Hill Country Club for 41 years.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Debbie, Pat, Lashaunda, Lisa, and many others, as he battled dementia.
His family will dearly miss his presence, his love and his big smile.
Friends may call 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm TODAY at the Anthony Funeral Chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 12 at 10 am at Browncroft Community Church (2530 Browncroft Blvd.).
