Pittsford: Helen died on February 20, 2013 at age 94. Born Helen Mary Clark on October 7, 1918 in Mechanicville, NY into a good Irish family; father William Clark, a railroad conductor, mother Mary Veronica Kiley, brother John T. Clark and sisters Alice Atkins Retallick and Margaret Olive Atkins Sickles.
It was in Mechanicville that she met and married her husband Raymond J. Duell "Jake". They had six children, Raymond (deceased), Martin, Ronald (deceased), Judy, Jean, and David. There are 9 grandchildren; Ron, Kirsten, Jason, Mike, Matt, Cassie, James, Greg, and Kate; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
At the age of 50 when her husband Raymond died she went back to school to support and raise her last two children. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse, a job she excelled at. She received a special award at her graduation, the first time such an award was given. She went to work at the Ellis Hospital and worked in many departments but she found her real passion working in the Emergency Room.
After raising her last two children, she married Dr. Robert McCambridge, and moved to Pittsford, NY. Her family now grew to include Robert's adult children, Chris, Kathy and Steve, 2 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Upon moving to Rochester, Helen became an active member in the Seton Group. She and Robert enjoyed camping, boating and traveled to many places. They stayed at Elderhostels when they could for they both liked to learn about life and other people. Her whole life, Helen loved to read, listen to music, dance and go to plays. She took great interest in her grandchildren's lives and watching them grow, although any child would grab her attention.
She was a wonderful mother and wife. She and her wisdom will be missed by all and never forgotten. She was a woman to ride the river with.
Friends may call Sunday, 2-4 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). Services will be held Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Albany NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the hospice of your choice. To share a memory of Helen or send a condolence to the family visit www.anthonychapels.com.
