Lake Ridge, VA: Marilyn M. Humphlett, 88 of Lake Ridge, VA passed away at Westminister at Lake Ridge on January 7, 2013. She was born December 25, 1924 to the late Earl and Reba MacDonald in Cortland, NY. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Wilbert Humphlett, two daughters, Linda Blake and her husband David Summerall, and Patricia Humphlett and her husband Rodney Bent. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Suzanne Raileanu. She is also survived by her grandchildren William and Braden Blake, Jeffrey Raileanu, and Nathaniel and Abigail Bent.
Marilyn graduated from Syracuse University with a major in nutrition and psychology. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. While at Duke University for a Masters degree in nutrition, she met her future husband who was a graduate student at Duke in the Chemistry Building next door. They were married in the Syracuse University chapel in November 1948.
Marilyn and Bill lived in Irondequoit, outside of Rochester, NY for 57 years where Marilyn was an active member of Summerville Presbyterian Church for 55 years, a member of the Century Club of Rochester, two bridge clubs, and her local garden club. Marilyn and Bill traveled on an African safari, sailed the Mediterranean in the tall ship Sea Cloud, and for their 50th wedding anniversary flew on the Concord to England and returned on the QE2. She volunteered at a local hospital, played tennis, and was an avid Duke basketball fan. After Bill's retirement from Eastman Kodak, they spent winters in Sarasota, FL for many years and later moved to Lake Ridge to be near family. She will be remembered for her fabulous dinner parties and family get-togethers, her generous spirit and positive outlook, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster at Lake Ridge, 12191 Clipper Drive, Lake Ridge, VA 22192 on January 26 at 11 am.
