Brockport: Of Brockport, NY and Zephyrhills, FL, age 95 at Gulfside Regional Hospice, March 22, 2014, with family at his bedside. Born September 17, 1918, Milford was raised on a farm in Barre, NY. He trained as an engineer in the class of '42 at Rochester Atheneum and Mechanics Institute (now RIT) before serving in the 8th Army, 305th Bombardment Group, 365th Squadron during World War II. A B-17 ball turret gunner, he spent 11 months as a POW in Germany. In later years he spoke of these experiences, but in the belief that nation should not lift up sword against nation.
Milford and Doris enjoyed many years of square dancing and travelling. He was an untiring supporter of Brockport United Methodist Church, serving as trustee, lay leader, church school teacher, a leader of the major renovations in the 1960s and ingenious repairer of everything from the heating system to the organ. He will be remembered and much-missed for his warmth, sincerity and sly humor.
