Dougherty, Richard "Dick"
Rochester: November 19, 2008, at age 88. A Times-Union and Democrat & Chronicle reporter, editor and featured columnist for 56 years, he was born in Rutherford, NJ in 1920. He attended Duke University, served as a 2nd Lieutenant in World War II and graduated from Syracuse University. He began work with the Gannett Newspapers in 1948 and retired in 2004 at age 84. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat, herself a former journalist with United Press, the Marshall Plan and Gannett. Dick Dougherty is also survived by sons, Richard, of Arlington, Texas, and Steven, of New York City; daughter, Carolyn Hines, of Colorado, and three granddaughters, Eva Dougherty of New York City and Annie Laurie Hines and Cameron Hines of Colorado.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 South Winton Rd., on Saturday, December 13 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd., PO Box 299, Fairport, NY 14450; or GRROWLS, P.O. Box 6634, Syracuse, NY 13217 (A Golden Retriever rescue group).
