Sun Oct 18 08:49:19 2009 I listen to With Heart and Voice each week, a truly regular fan... What a great loss! I was grateful enough to meet Richard Gladwell when he visited my Parish, St. Anne's Church at a time I was there and he also made a point to make conversation with me at the Post Office one day, such a truly nice person! He will be sadly missed by many. With Sympathy and Prayer, )udy Heagney-O'Hara

How I loved the music he chose to share with us all! When I lived in New Mexico -- his program was an oasis of culture among the tumbleweeds. On behalf of my family, I send our prayers
and thanksgiving for the gifts he shared for so long.

I was a listener of Richard's program for several years on Sunday nights on Maine Public Radio and was saddened to hear of his recent death. In that sadness, though, I give thanks for the gift of the music he shared with all of us. Though he has gone on before us, I hope to hear and enjoy his voice and the music he loved for years to come.

I have listened to his broadcasts here in Richmond, VA for nearly 8 years. Incredible music, and the background he provided was very helpful to me. Short intros, but very insightful. I never met him, though I wish I could have, but he opened my mind to some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. He will be sorely missed. What a wonderful human being he must have been. May he rest in God's presence forever, and be eternally serenaded by the inspiring and soul-shaking music he shared with the world. God Bless You, Richard.

I love "With Heart & Voice". Choral and organ music, especially from the Renaissance & Baroque Eras, are my favorite. I thought of Richard as my fellow organ geek. I didn't know him personally but I e-mailed him a few times with questions about music I liked from his program. I felt like I knew him. He had a mellifluous voice, too. And even though I have no English blood in me, I am an Anglophile so that gave Richard more points in my book. I will miss him. "Ta evah so" for everything, Richard, you were a "jolly chap"! I hope you have now met Boris Ord, Arthur Mann, & other past scholars & directors of the King's College Choir of Cambridge (the world's best choir)! Enjoy making music with them! Requiescat in pace, "Ricardus Gladwellius"!

I so valued my radio "visits" with Richard Gladwell to begin my Sundays at 6 am or end them at 10 pm (sometimes both). He was a complete Joy and I do hope his thousands of broadcasts will continue to be aired.
God Bless!

With thanks for the life and ministry (in the true sense) of Richard. His was an unashamed religious presence via the Christian musical tradition in this increasingly secular world. Neal Campbell (formerly St Stephen's, Richmond, Va., now St. Luke's, Darien, Conn.)

As a choir singer all my life, I appreciated hearing the full sound of the anthems I'd sung, performed by outstanding choirs from all around the world. I was privileged to work with him on the occasions he came to WV. He did take my best friend back with him to Rochester. Regardless, he enhanced my love of choral music, and introduced me to new works. I'll miss his quiet, peaceful voice each Sunday..

I am praying for the family of Richard. He was like family to our family. We have listened to "Heart and Voice" for at least 30 yrs and was so excited to hear him while in FL for the past 10yrs. The church music he selected has brought me closer to God. I know he is in heaven organizing the choirs. May he rest in peace." Pat Dalton (Webster, NY)

When I was a student at Eastman, I would get a large bag of tall coffees to go and head over to Midtown Tower to WBBF-FM and Richard and I would drink coffee and talk about music, organ building, conductors, etc. - all manner of musical subjects. Richard imparted so much knowledge to me and I have not forgotten anything that was said. How wonderful that I could continue as his 'student' each and every Sunday morning and evening, listening to WXXI. He has been a big part of my life. To say that he is missed is an understatement. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your gifts with the world.

Richard was first and foremost a true gentleman. I worked with him at Kodak for several years and he assisted me on several projects. His assignments were always on time and accurate. I enjoyed his stories about his original home in England and his fondness for music. He will be missed by all.
