Wyoming: Roger Lyal Colvin, age 87, of Pearl Creek, Wyoming, NY passed away Saturday, January 19th 2013 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Cherry Creek, NY March 31st 1925 the son of the late Clair M. and Eva Dann Colvin. Roger was a member of Mary Immaculate Parish, St. Mary's Church, Pavilion, NY. He served in both the Merchant Marines (1944-46) and the Army (1948-53). He served in both Pacific and Atlantic theaters during WWII. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, playing cards, especially cribbage. Hunting and fishing were of great importance to him. He was a founding, and lifetime member of the Five Point Rod and Gun Club as well as past president. He gave over 40 years of dedicated service to the NYS Sportsman Education Program in Wyoming County. Roger was a longtime member and past president of the Wyoming Co. Wildlife Federation. He retired from Agway Inc. in 1987 after 39 years of service. Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nellie Saxby Colvin and four sons; Eric R. (Darlene) Colvin of PA, Randy R. (Betty) Colvin of Pavilion, Gregory A. Colvin of Silver Lake and C. Charles (Sandy) Colvin of PA, fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, a sister Jean Colvin Thompson of Conawango Valley, a brother; Brian (Anna) Colvin of South Dayton, sisters in-law; Mildred Colvin of Rochester, Claribel Brumagan of Silver Creek, Louise Vier of N. Carolina, Janice Colvin of Georgia, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Fay W., Roy B., Dann S., and Zane Colvin also a niece Cheryl Colvin and a nephew Brad Colvin.
Friends of Roger Colvin may call on Wednesday, January 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw. A veteran's service will be held at 6:45pm and a Vigil will follow at 7pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, January 24th at Mary Immaculate Parish, St. Mary's Church Pavilion. Burial will follow privately in the Pearl Creek Cemetery.
