Irondequoit: Passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2013, at age 89, at Highland Hospital, and in the presence of the Lord, surrounded by her loving family.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Frank J. Barber, her parents, Filipo and Nanzzarena Gagliano. She is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Morris) Graham, Deborah (Anthony) DeSalvo and Jacqueline (George) Polisse; ever faithful loving sister, Rose Gagliano; grandchildren, Joseph (Toni) Tumminelli, Donald (Kelsey) Tumminelli, Christopher (Debbie) Tumminelli, Anthony (Erika) DeSalvo, Michael (Bradley Lezo) DeSalvo, Alicia (Ryan) Billings and James (Jeannie) Graham; great-grandchildren, Joey, Nicole, Samantha, Megan, Kiley and Landon Tumminelli; Jeremy and Lucas DeSalvo; Jack and Austin Billings; brothers, Louis and Christopher (Theresa) Gagliano of FL; brother-in-law, Tom (Ann) Barber of FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Verna was a member of Eagles, UCT, REACT and St. Cecilia's Womens's Club. She worked at Stromberg Carlson and Bonds. We celebrate her life as a loving mother and grandmother, and the matriarch of the family. Verna was a wife, a homemaker, cook, baker, seamstress and always had great parties.
The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Hospital for their kindness and compassion, especially ICU.
Her family will receive friends on MONDAY, 4- 8 PM at the funeral home, 1650 Empire Blvd., Webster. On TUESDAY, please join the family at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha at St. Cecilia's Church, 2732 Culver Road, Irondequoit at 10:30 AM for her Funeral Mass. Entombment, White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to School of the Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623 in Verna's memory.
