Wende Grant Obituary

October 17, 2010. Born October 24, 1927 in Webster, NY. Predeceased by parents Walter and Aili Steinorth and sister, Mary Kujawa. Survived by husband of 52 years, Duane Grant, nine adopted children, three from Rochesrter, six from Vietnam and two from Cambodia; 16 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and sisters, Nancy Wheeler and Ina Orr, many neices and nephews.
When Wendy moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1965, she helped form Women's International League of Peace and Freedom. She became the Director of Adoption for Friends For All Children operating in Saigon, making many trips to Vietnam and Cambodia. She was involved in the highly publicized Operation Baby Lift, evacuating 2,000 Vietnamese orphans near the end of the war. When the C5A plane carrying some of these orphans crashed near Saigon on April 4, 1975, Wende was instramental in placing the children who survived, 55 of whom were adopted by American families.
Wende was featured in a book by Geraldo Rivera called "A Special kind of Courage" and co-authored two books with Rosemary Taylor or Australia, "Turn My Eyes Away" and "Orphans of War".

I had the privilege to visit with Wende and Duane early October 2010. She was an amazing person and she changed the live of hundreds if not thousands of people. I will never forget our visit. Thank you Wende!

I am the eldest daughter of Wende Grant. My mom had the biggest heart in the world. Yes she adopted nine children and that alone tells you what kind of person she was. She always was a givin, loving,caring and interested that all were okay. And if not, she did what she could to help. She will be in my heart forever, and will be missed by all.Mom..............I love you so. I am so sorry u ae not with us and yet again I know you are with us.
