Cardillo, Calogero R.

Penfield: Age 90, a resident of Aaron Manor in Penfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Charlie was born June 10, 1923 in Rochester, the son of Joseph and Josephine Cardillo. He was raised in Rochester and graduated from West High School in 1941. He entered St. Bernard's Seminary, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy. After obtaining his Teaching Certificate, Charlie attended the University of Rochester, taking courses in Physics and Chemistry. He taught at Aquinas Institute, then worked as a night supervisor at Bausch and Lomb, at Stromberg-Carlson as an Engineering Supervisor and finally as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at RIT. He was also a part-time tutor. An active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Webster, NY, Charlie was also an accomplished pianist and organist who loved animals, particularly his mynah bird, Cyrano, his dog, Barney, and his cat, Sandy.

Predeceased by his parents, three brothers (Calogero, Sam and Jerry Cardillo), and two sisters (Rosalie Biltucci and Lena Aldrich), Charlie is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Kennedy and Mrs. Virginia McKay, and a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Valerie Cardillo, as well as by 17 nieces and nephews and their families-- all of whom have fond memories of the uncle who regularly took them to the movies, taught them to dance and play piano and always had a smile and word of encouragement for them.

Friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., Tuesday, 4-7 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:15 AM at Holy Spirit Church, 1355 Hatch Rd. (at Plank Rd.) in Webster. Interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations be made to Lollypop Farm in Charlie's memory.
