Margaret Buckley Obituary

Buckley, Margaret "Peggy" (VerStrate)

Gates: Our dear friend Peggy finished her earthly journey on May 4, 2014.

Born May 28, 1945, in Plainfield, NJ. She graduated from Douglass College and moved to Rochester to work at Kodak. During Peggy's career at Kodak, she wrote a variety of photographic publications that helped millions of Americans capture important moments in their lives. A consummate grammarian and disciplined editor, she supervised and trained a group of Kodak writers and editors to write clearly, concisely, and precisely. Time and again, she patiently developed the rawest beginner into a skilled writer. (And we are sure she is reading and editing this obit from on high with her infamous blue pencil!)

She left Kodak to form her own company, The Communications Factory, continuing her editorial prowess by writing for many different organizations, especially the NYS Library and Friends of the Library.

Peggy was an avid reader, a passionate feline ally, wily ping pong paddler, and crossword puzzle aficionado.

She wishes to thank the many friends, nurses, social workers, doctors, and neighbors who supported her during the past few years while she battled cancer. At her request, there will be no memorial service.

Memorials to Palliative Care Program, UofR Medical Center, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Box 687, Rochester, NY 14642, or Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450, in Peggy's name.

She is predeceased by her brother Gary Verstrate. Survived by sister-in-law Mary Ann Verstrate of Port Saint Lucie, FL, niece Amy of NJ, nephew Andrew (Tina, and their children Nicholas, Connor, and Lauren) of Cypress, TX.

Peggy's quiet presence is greatly missed every time I look out my patio window and know she isn't my neighbor anymore. We had a long run, Miss Peggy, but 30 years still wasn't long enough.

"Penny," as she was known back then, was my first best friend. Her pastor father was my minister at the Reformed Church of Metuchen (NJ). We graduated high school together, then parted ways. But I have her to thank for the creative and amusing word games we played, and for the joy of singing harmony in the church's children's choir.Fond memories

Never met another person who could wield a red pen quite as effectively. She taught us well. Goodbye, Peggy.
