Our MOM was 101 almost 2
We've been saying it was a great run… well I've been on few runs in my day.. and I would call this more of a marathon.. a great marathon.
Born in 1912 its good to reflect on some of the things she experienced within her lifetime

The Titanic ... sank the year she was born
Women getting the right to vote
World war one ..she would have been 6 1/2.
THE roaring twenties – her formable years … her teen age years (that could explain a lot)
The Stock market crash of 1929 AS A 16yr old she saw many lose it all.
The depression for her, she was 17 into her 30s and then a war
Starting a family as she did, late in life in those days, in her 30s and making up for lost time.
Mom was courted, she has told us, by many an man..under the "watchful eye of her brothers and none was good enough until an Irish football player from the other side of the city started to appear on Biele Terrace. Grampa Leo thought he was a good man. And , They actually went out for years before Marrying. I guess they were having too much fun dating to change things

Looking at the changes she saw in her life--
She was a rich girl she thought, because HER family had a car and running water. Though she had to share the hot water with her brothers during the Saturday night bath.
She remembered her first radio as a young child, her first TV as a mother, her first color TV as a young grandmother and saw the internet and home computers as a great grandmother.
She got her own first car when she was 90, and renewed her license when she was 100. No doubt if they have highways in heaven Mom is driving … there .. on the back roads of course where the scenery is better

From an accomplishment stand point, beyond HER being quite smart all her life and “with it” to her last days. She also:
Raised a great family and INSTILLED a strong sense of family and faith. She had a strong WILL and sense of PURPOSE and instilled that in all of us
Her legacy sits with her HERE today, many college degrees, and graduate degrees, athletic titles, Successful, careers men… and WOMEN (of that she is very proud)… All with a very strong sense of family and faith.

Her life was by no means EASY. She and my father Tom, the love of her life, had to manage well to raise a family of 4, sending all to catholic Grammar and High School and college.
She saw her brothers go off to war, as well as a future son in law.
She lost her daughter suddenly RIGHT before her eyes, and her one son in law -- Gary, who served her as chauffer so many times,--- a short time later. Virtually almost all of her peer friends and relatives of her generation have passed.

She could be STRICT, stern, and demanding, and at the same time, kind, considerate and thoughtful, ALL the things that make up a good mother. She could SURPRISE you even in her final years, with some very good guidance.
She had a business background working in RETAIL, and in a store she could shop with the best of them. Even as a 100yr old, she KNEW fashion, style and a bargain. I won't go into details here, but the 1,000 tea bags she got for 99 cents (with NO strings) or the 30 pairs of fillip flops she gave out as presents to everyone, extended family included…. that she bought for 10cents each, could be still in USE TODAY
Lastly she could make friends virtually like no one WE have ever seen. Throughout her life. Not just from our home on 84, but also later from her two bedroom condo in Ogden, she knew the neighborhood and all that walked by…… as real friends and people, she'd met them, and knew them, all ages and races, 100s of them throughout the years, People at her new home, at church, at the restaurants and stores she shopped at, the pool she swam at, a friend to many…to 100s, she will be missed.

For the family her shoes will never be filled, her example and life never forgotten, her memory and legacy is clearly in tack.
